The City of Harrison invests in continuous training to keep our community safe. This October, several members of the Harrison Fire Department joined regional first responders for a safety course called Firefighting Fundamentals for CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) Vehicles, hosted by Rumpke Waste & Recycling in partnership with the Colerain Township Fire Department.

The specialized session focused on the unique characteristics of CNG vehicles and best practices for combating CNG vehicle fires. Participants reviewed how to identify fuel system components and shut-offs, establish safe approach and standoff distances, manage high-pressure releases and controlled venting, and coordinate incident command when CNG is involved.

Why It Matters

As more fleets adopt CNG power, first responders must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to make fast, informed decisions on scene. This training helps ensure Harrison firefighters can quickly recognize CNG hazards, secure the area, and protect residents, bystanders, and mutual-aid partners.
