The March 17 Harrison City Council meeting focused on planning for the city’s future while continuing to support the day-to-day work that keeps the community running. From long-term development strategy to ongoing public safety discussions and community improvements, the evening reflected a city balancing growth with thoughtful planning.
City Extends Residential Development Pause
One of the evening’s key actions was the approval of an extension of the temporary moratorium on certain residential developments through June 1, 2027.
City leadership emphasized that this pause is intentional. As Harrison continues to attract development interest, the extension provides time to complete the comprehensive plan and ensure that future growth aligns with infrastructure, services, and long-term community priorities.
Planning for Harrison’s Next Chapter
Work on the City’s comprehensive plan is actively underway, with public engagement continuing to play an important role.

Residents are invited to attend an upcoming public presentation on Tuesday, April 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hearth Brewing. The session will provide an opportunity to review the plan, ask questions, and help shape the direction of Harrison over the next several years.
At the same time, the City has begun its formal charter review process, which will continue over the coming months with the goal of bringing recommendations to Council later this summer.
Continued Investment and Local Momentum
Recent activity across the city reflects continued business growth and development interest.
A ribbon cutting was held for Toolbox Studios, and Planning Commission approvals included a new business, Modern Era Hair Collective, along Harrison Avenue, along with site activity connected to the Midland Atlantic development.
City leadership also reported multiple recent development meetings, underscoring ongoing interest in Harrison as a place to invest and grow.
Public Safety Conversations Continue
Police and fire updates highlighted both strong service levels and important policy discussions underway.
Fire and EMS teams responded to 260 calls in February, while police reported 21 traffic accidents and stable staffing levels.
Council also discussed community concerns around residential street parking, particularly involving larger recreational vehicles, as well as the potential future implementation of body and vehicle cameras. These conversations are expected to continue as options are evaluated.

Residents were also encouraged to plan ahead for safe transportation during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
Community Improvements Taking Shape
Several visible improvements across the city are moving forward.
Work is underway on a new splash pad and updated restroom facilities at the Community Center, with completion expected later this spring. Interior upgrades, including lighting and ceiling improvements, are also in progress.
In addition, the City’s new digital sign along Harrison Avenue is now active, providing a new way to share timely information with the community.
Recognizing Service and Community Efforts
Council took time to acknowledge both local businesses and longtime public servants. White’s Realty was recognized as the Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month.
Council members also reflected on the importance of recognizing retiring employees who have dedicated years of service to the City, noting that efforts are underway to ensure those contributions are properly honored.
