The Harrison Fire Department protects the City and beyond, serving six jurisdictions and covering nearly 50 square miles with two stations and 45 personnel.
Coverage Area
The Harrison Fire Department provides full-service fire, rescue, and EMS coverage for the City of Harrison and surrounding areas. While many residents are familiar with the department's work inside City limits, its daily responsibilities extend across township lines, into Indiana, and along a major interstate.
The department currently serves:
City of Harrison (Hamilton County): Primary jurisdiction, full-service coverage
Harrison Twp. (Hamilton County): Contracted coverage
Crosby Twp. (Hamilton County): Mutual aid coverage
Whitewater Twp. (Hamilton County): Mutual aid coverage
West Harrison, Bright, and nearby Indiana communities: Contracted coverage and
I-74 corridor: Emergency response along a high-traffic interstate
Why This Matters
Although the department’s primary responsibility is to Harrison residents, the reality is that firefighters are routinely called outside the City. Whether responding to vehicle crashes on I-74, structure fires in nearby townships, or medical calls across the Indiana border, these requests for assistance can temporarily draw crews away from local neighborhoods.
This wide coverage area spans nearly 50 square miles and serves an estimated 20,000 people. With two fire stations and 45 personnel, Harrison’s fire teams are working hard to meet demand. Mutual aid calls have increased steadily in recent years, and the department responded to nearly 3,200 calls in 2024 alone.
Regional Partnerships
Through mutual aid and service agreements, Harrison firefighters partner with other departments to strengthen response capabilities across the region. These partnerships improve outcomes during large-scale incidents and help ensure that every community receives timely, professional emergency service. Harrison is recognized as a reliable regional partner, responding across township and state lines while maintaining high standards of service and care.
Staffing and station logistics are carefully managed to ensure coverage, but long travel distances and simultaneous calls can create challenges. As call volumes increase and development continues, evaluating future needs will help Harrison stay proactive in protecting resident.

Prepared to Serve
The Harrison Fire Department is committed to protecting the City and the greater region it supports. As the community grows and demand for services increases, maintaining strong coverage and quick response times remains a top priority.
Fire and EMS services are something everyone in the community depends on, and something we all value. Whether responding to a medical emergency, a fire, or a call for mutual aid from a neighboring community, our firefighters show up with skill and compassion. When we support them we support each other. As the City continues to plan for the future, residents will have opportunities to weigh in and help shape the path forward.
