As the City of Harrison continues to grow, care is taken to ensure that progress is both thoughtful and respectful of our land’s history. This month, we received official confirmation that the Oakland Hills residential development project has been reviewed and cleared following a comprehensive archaeological survey.

In February 2025, a team from Archaeological Consultants of Ossian conducted a formal Phase I survey on the Oakland Hills property. Their work was recently documented in a Cultural Resource Management Report shared with state and federal agencies, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Ohio State Historic Preservation Office.

The findings? While a few minor archaeological sites were identified, such as isolated artifacts or small, low-density scatters, none met the threshold requiring further excavation. In the words of the archaeologists, the proposed development "will not affect any properties eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places." The recommendation was clear: the project is safe to proceed.

This is a common and proactive step in responsible development. It reflects Harrison’s commitment to balancing growth with stewardship.

Looking Ahead

The Oakland Hills project will bring new homes to our growing community. As with all development projects, if any unexpected discoveries were to occur, the appropriate state protocols are already in place and well understood by the development team.

At The Source, we’ll continue to share updates as the development progresses to help residents stay informed every step of the way.
