A smart investment in public safety often starts long before construction begins.
The City of Harrison has received a generous donation of approximately 5.5 acres of land that will allow the City to move forward with plans for a future Public Safety Center on Edgewood Road near the Trailhead Development.
The donated site is planned for a combined fire station and public safety facility designed to serve one of the fastest-growing areas of the community. Once operational, the new station is expected to significantly improve emergency response times in the area.
The project will directly benefit about 25 percent of Harrison’s total population, including more than 1,500 homes in recent and new developments, while also supporting portions of Harrison Township.
City officials noted that the land donation helps eliminate acquisition costs and positions the project to move forward within existing financial plans, with no levy currently anticipated. The total project cost is estimated between $7 million and $10 million, with commencement projected within the next five years.
In addition to fire services, the future facility is expected to include space for a police presence, increasing visibility and strengthening overall public safety coverage in the area.
This project reflects Harrison’s continued focus on responsible growth, strategic planning, and investing in services that protect residents now and into the future. Editor’s Note (April 27, 2026): This article has been updated to reflect the correct project agreement timeline. The agreement states the fire station project would commence within five years.
